SPSO investigate complaint against Fife NHS Board
The issue
Mrs C complained about the care and treatment provided to her late husband (Mr C) by Fife NHS Board. Mrs C's complaint related to delay in diagnosing that Mr C had lung cancer, the treatment and standard of care provided to Mr C and about the palliative nursing care Mr C received following his cancer diagnosis. |
The outcome
The SPSO investigated this case and found that there were serious failings in Mr C's care and treatment. They therefore upheld the complaint and made a series of recommendations to Fife NHS Board, including that the Board should independently review their lung cancer service, that training needs in the palliative care service are identified and met, and that a written apology should be given to Mrs C. The SPSO have instructed Fife NHS Board to provide evidence of action towards the recommendations by certain deadlines. |
